Digital Literacy

Mind consists of words,
Words define a man.
Words can be a weapon,
to warm the cold soul or to destroy hope.

Words can build a man,
But it can also break a heart.
Words can fill a hole,
But also it can create a gap.

The letters are only twenty-six,
Yet its power is beyond the measure.
Sometimes the words can be kind, 
But some words drive people to the edge of their lives (Lan-2020)


Words...words... words... !
In the digital era, the words are posted everyday in instagram posting, whatsapp chat, or facebook status and other social media. Some are positive, some are negative. Some words are telling truth, some words spread lies. Some words lift up souls, some words destroy hope.

Words are sharper than words in this era. Words have power to kill people. Social media bullying is real. It has even taken the lives of others. I have read many comments that were tried hurting others on the social media platform. Too much anger is thrown at the people, especially public figures. The ones who commented the public figures negatively believed that they were better than them. Sulli, Goo Hara, and Cha In Ha cases were only pinnacles  of cyber bullying cases. Lots of negative comments were reported become the reasons of their suicides.

Words, written or oral, are from the hearts and tongues. Therefore, people must be trained with digital literacy. They need to learn to be responsible of what they have written as the words will affect the other people lives. 

James 3 has taught us about taming our tongues, or can be precisely our words. Written or oral, words are the double edges swords. A word can easily hurt people, or it can lift up depressed souls. Words or tongues are sparks of fire that can burn a forest or encourage the faith. We are defined by words we utter. (James 3:5-6)
    5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what     a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 
    The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil     among the parts of the body. It corrupts the             whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

Words are powerful. Therefore, you must use it wisely. Too many negativity around us already. Let's change of it by saying one good word everyday that encourage others. If you are about to say or write negative comments in your social media platform. Please stop and re-think about it. Think about "whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." (Philippians 4:8, NIV). Then, your words written or orally will be positive words that build up others. Say good words to others. Say positive things about everything in your life. Then, you'll see the miracles happen to you. Spread love. Ask God to empower you to be positive.
