Decision making

Everyday we face a decision. We have to decide things since we open the eyes in the morning. Since the first thing in the morning, we have to decide whether we want to stay at the bed or go up. We have to decide whether we want to take a bath first or brush our teeth. We have to decide whether we want to eat breakfast or skip it. And the list go longer and longer until we go back to our bed.

There are a lot of decisions that we should make. We have to make either it is a direct or indirect decisions. We have to make the urgent or planned decisions. We have to make tons of decisions which some will affect others or our surrounding. It is easy to make a decision for ourselves. However, making a decision that will affect many people is not easy. We should think about others too.

There are some steps in making decisions:
1. Define the problems
Sometimes we tend to jump into action instead of doing a thorough observation to define our problems. We sometimes tend to take a bias decision based on our on way of thinking or the way we are familiar in the past. However, we should see the problems from many point of views instead of our own point of view to get an objective report of our problems.

2. List all the possibilities
Think innovative way. Find creative way to solve the problems. Don't limit yourself.

3. List all the results of the possibilities
Play it in your mind about the results of all possibilities.

4. Define the criteria : model, rules, actions and advantages.
Define the criteria of the best decision. Think of a model. Make the rules. Play  a scenario of the actions and measure the effects of a decision,

5. List all the results (advantages and disadvantages) of all the possibilities or combine possibilities.
List all results of the possibilities or combine possibilities.

6. Choose one of possibilities
Based on the advantages and disadvantages, choose the best decision. And do it.

7. Evaluate the result, operational cost and effects
Evaluate and finish the details of operational costs. Anticipate the unpredictable things that may come up later.

8. Communicate the result and strategic plannings.
Communicate, and share it with others. Build a network so that the decision can be benefits for others too.

A wise saying states "It's better to make a wrong decision than not making a decision at all." By not making a decision, we let others to make decisions for us. So.. I think it's better to make our own decisions than let others make a decision for us.
