Live Fully, Life is Precious

It's been 2 months since my uncle passed away. I wrote this line: "Live fully, life is precious" in my Facebook status when my uncle had just gone. Before he died, I saw him dying. He had to struggle just to take a breath, he had to lift himself up just for breathing. Suddenly, the mortality of human hit me on my face.

I saw him as a successful man. He had a huge mansion that he called as his house. He had bank deposit and successful business. He had a family of five children and beautiful wife, also grandchildren. However, I found that all that materials was useless for him when he tried to survive with every breath that he took. Every single breath was more precious than anything when he tried to hold on his life in the mortal vessel.

Seeing him like that made me to review again some of my views on life. One of them is the definition of success. What is a success? The world has offered us many beautiful pictures of successful life. Some say that a success is having a pile of bank deposit, huge amount of wealth. Some say that success is having an easy life of luxury. Some define success from the power that they have. No wonder, we are toiling on earth and breaking our bone working for more wealth, more power and more comfort in life. We think that having more money, fame and power will bring us satisfaction. Well, look out in history of men then. So many rulers rose and they seek more power at the end they fell. So many people who reached their stardom and wealth committed suicide. I think for these people having wealth, fame and power may not the answer for something they seek. But if the things are so rewarding why many stars decided to end their lives tragically?

I like the quote from Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician, physicist, inventor, writer and Christian philosopher. He wrote "I never understood life could be until I found God. There's no longer a big empty hole inside of me. I feel like I have a purpose in life? A mission." I think that's this quote hold the truth.

If life is a mission, there's always a reason to do things. If life is a mission, we will do things more carefully and dearly. We won't waste our time for something in vain or hurting ourselves with drugs or overindulgence in alcohol. As life is not just having property, wealth, fame and power; but life is to bring impact and influence to others.

I'd like to end this year of 2014 by asking question myself "how many people that I have touched and be the better persons?"
I think when I leave this world, that will be my legacy.
